Race the Sun DLC likely coming to Wii U post-launch

Just not at sunrise

Although Race the Sun began as a PC experience, the game has since expanded to consoles and handhelds — namely the PS3, PS4 and Vita. And it's fitting that the Star Fox 64-inspired creation is also making an appearance on the Wii U this year. That being said, there's been little news on that front since Nintendo shared a trailer for it as part of their Nintendo Direct in April. It's been a mystery as to when the game would get added to the Wii U eShop. But after inquiring about the matter to Aaron San Filippo, GameZone learned that it is indeed still on the way — in fact, it should be ready for purchase next month.

"We're in the certification process and unfortunately haven't nailed down exactly how long it'll take," San Filippo shared. However, he estimates that the Wii U version "should land in August" if all goes well.

Yesterday, Flippfly surprised fans of Race the Sun with new DLC almost two years after the game's debut. For the time being, the add-on — called Sunrise — is only available for PC, but because of the impending release of the Wii U version, GameZone also inquired as to whether or not this would be an option for Wii U owners as well. After all, it wouldn't be the first time they were left in the dust over DLC plans. San Filippo did comment on the matter, stating that while the Sunrise DLC "won't be available at launch" (due to the fact that the game was submitted prior to the DLC's launch), it will likely come later through an update.

Considering its unexpected success as what San Filippo describes as "a simple idea," Flippfly's journey with Race the Sun has left them with lessons that will help guide future decisions. "We've learned a lot about our strengths and weaknesses through the console launch," San Filippo acknowledged. "We'll definitely think a bit more about the features we want to commit to." Evidently, the Sun isn't ready to set permanently, for there is still light to give.
