As expected, Insomniac Games' mysterious title is a new Ratchet & Clank game. Confirmed today on the PlayStation Blog, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is a new single-player game for the PlayStation 3, and the first "traditional" installment in the series since 2009's A Crack in Time. It's also the "biggest downloadable Ratchet & Clank game yet."
It's described as a "story-driven platform adventure, with the humor and heart that makes the franchise so beloved." You can also see from the trailer a bunch of "crazy new weapons and gadgets" and a emphasis on gravity, as you'll experience zero-g space. Throughout the game you'll use "gravity-defying new gadgets" while manipulating gravity to solve puzzles.
According to an IGN preview, Into the Nexus begins with Ratchet and Clank transporting twin villains Vendra and Neftin Prog to a location known as the Vartax Detention Center. It reads: "This voyage brings our favorite lombax-and-robot duo to haunted space, however, and while in the process of bringing his foes to lock-up, they escape Ratchet’s grasp. This leaves Ratchet and Clank alone and stranded in the scariest sector of space they’ve ever visited."
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is due out on PlayStation 3 this holiday season. It will be available on PlayStation Network for $29.99. While I'm ecstatic to see a new single-player installment for the Ratchet & Clank series, I'm a bit disappointed it's not coming to the PlayStation 4. I understand Sony's commitment to keeping the PS3 relevant, and with a large install base already it makes sense, but don't you think a classic franchise like this on the PS4 would help sell units at launch?
