Regal Cinemas to begin checking bags in light of recent shootings

In an effort to restore the "safety and comfort" of guests following the uptick in movie theater shooting, Regal Entertainment Group has begun checking bags at various theater locations. While no official announcement has been made, reports of theaters searching bags have been made public, and the company's website does mention the possibility that your bag could be searched.

Regal Entertainment Group's official admittance policy reads:

"Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America. Regal Entertainment Group wants our customers and staff to feel comfortable and safe when visiting or working in our theatres. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection prior to admission. We acknowledge that this procedure can cause some inconvenience and that it is not without flaws, but hope these are minor in comparison to increased safety."

I'm not sure about you, but while I still go to the movies, I definitely experience a level of uneasiness now more than ever. What used to be a nice, relaxing trip to the movies now has me on a heightened sense of alert anytime someone remotely suspicious enters.

But while Regal Entertainment Group claims that the policy is for your own safety, some people on social media belive it's just an excuse to regulate the snacks many moviegoers sneak into theaters to avoid the ridiculously expensive concession prices (guilty!)

Whatever the company's true intentions, it's a shame we have to live in a world where this sort of policy is at least somewhat justified.
