Region lock may be removed for Xbox 360 backward compatible games

The Microsoft backward compatible program allows you to play digital or disc based Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One. The only way to currently play them is to install the Xbox 360 copy you currently own onto your Xbox One. This may be changing shortly.

Twitter user Zom-B posted a conversation with Xbox Support indicating that Microsoft is seeking to remove the region lock on all digital versions of Xbox 360 games. This would allow all players, regardless of whether you currently own the Xbox 360 game or not, to purchase and install them from your Xbox One for play. It's something Xbox One users have been requesting for a long time now. Many players traded in their Xbox 360, and other are keeping it just for backward compatible games resulting in unwanted clutter.

The full quote, as you can see below, states that. "So we're actually to remove the region lock so customers can freely get the 360 games without the need of a console to use their Microsoft local credits" Hopefully this is true and not some elaborate hoax, but we've contacted Microsoft PR and will let you know what we hear. For now, you'll still need to own the 360 version of the game in order to play. Sorry.

Just a guy lucky enough to talk about games with you fine people. "Don't ever tell anybody anything, when you do, you start missing everybody".
