Back in July 2015, an Imgur user dug up an old piece of hardware found in his dad's junk bin. This old hunk of junk was actually the Sony/Nintendo PlayStation prototype that never actually launched.
For a bit of a history lesson, back in 1988 Sony and Nintendo worked together on a disc-reading accessory for the SNES called the Super Disc. Nintendo decided to partner with Phillips instead (which is where those very unfortunate Zelda CDi titles came from). After this, Sony went back home and started developing what would be the original PlayStation.
Present day, programmer Ben Heck borrowed the system and documented his experience with getting it up and running. The whole adventure is recorded in the video below. It's got a lot of technical jargon, but it's fun to watch. If jargon makes your eyes cross, you can skip to 8:15 to get into the actual test.
So technically, the Nintendo PlayStation can be played. Now hopefully someone can make some software for it.
