Reminder: PSN to undergo maintenance today

As I'm sure many of you are aware, PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today. The maintenance will begin at 9:00am Pacific Time and is scheduled to conclude around 1:00pm Pacific Time (12:00pm to 4:00pm Eastern). Of course, this is Sony we're talking about, so plan for some extended downtime.

Sony didn't go into specifics, but did say the maintenance will consist of a "series of back-end improvements to the network."

Given the struggles Sony has went through with PSN of late — a series of DDoS attacks followed by "heavy network traffic" — any sort of improvement is welcomed.

Sony notes that if you've signed in to the network any time prior to October 8th, you should still be able to play games online and access partner apps like Netflix during the maintenance. However, PS4 users will be unable to access the "What's New" feed, "Live Items," or their "Library." Share features will also be affected by the maintenance. The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and Account Management will not be available either.

Again though, this is Sony. So be prepared for the unexpected.
