Resident Evil 6 DLC included on-disc for ‘technical reasons’

Capcom was caught again with on-disc DLC for their latest game Resident Evil 6. Not long after Capcom promised to re-evaluate their practice of storing content on the discs of their games (after the incident with on-disc DLC with Street Fighter X Tekken), YouTube user FluffyQuack released a number of videos showing unreleased DLC on the disc of Resident Evil 6 including a "No Hope" difficulty, new costumes, attacks, and taunts. Also included are game files that refer to map packs, multiplayer game modes, and a co-op for the Ada campaign.

Although fans are obviously upset that Capcom once again stored content on-disc, the company defended the decision, citing "technical reasons" for the inclusion on-disc.

"We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc," a Capcom spokesperson told Eurogamer.

Capcom didn't get into specifics, but did say one piece of Resident Evil 6 DLC, in particular, require downloaded data and on-disc data to work properly. We don't know which one exactly, but information available indicates it may be the No Hope difficulty.

It's easy to understand why consumers are skeptical, but I ask you: how do you feel about Capcom's practice of putting downloadable content on the disc of their games?
