The new Resident Evil Revelations 2 is surprisingly good, despite its episodic nature. While we didn't score the game yet, as we're holding out for all episodes to be available, our own Andrew Clouther very much enjoyed Episode 1. However, players who purchased the game, specifically PC players, aren't too happy with Capcom, due to some false product information on the game's Steam page.
The game can apparently be played co-op with a friend offline. However, that's apparently only true if you're playing on consoles, despite listing this feature on the PC as well.
A quick glance at the game's Steam page proves that players have indeed been mislead.
In the above image, you can clearly see that the description states that players can switch between two characters with an AI partner or offline co-op. Apparently that feature isn't anywhere to be found.
In a statement given to Eurogamer, Capcom has seemingly blamed the ommision of this feature on variable graphical settings.
The PC version of Resident Evil Revelations 2 supports a variety of customizable visual settings and resolutions. The decision to prioritize a single local screen was made to ensure a stable user experience across a variety of different PC settings and devices.
Raid mode will support online co-op shortly after launch when a free patch is available for players to download which adds this feature, but the main campaign on PC will only be available to play in single local screen.
This certainly makes sense, considering each player's computer is built differently, and thus players would have to tinker with their settings to get the game performing well when trying to process two players with split screens. Since the PS4 and Xbox One systems are all built the same way, it's easy for Capcom to optimize the game accordingly.
The Steam page has been updated since then, and now has two additions at the bottom of that list:
1. Raid Mode online co-op functionality to be added at a later date.
2. The PC version does not support offline co-op play in the Campaign or Raid Mode.
So those looking to get some co-op action in Resident Evil Revelations 2, will have to wait until the free patch which will enable Raid Mode to be played online.
