In somewhat of a surprise today, Riot Games announced plans to celebrate the New Year with bonus RP in League of Legends. Between January 12th and January 18th, you'll get extra RP bonuses on your purchases.
Normally I don't complain about free stuff, but there's just one problem: the announcement comes just a few days too late. Odds are, if you received a prepaid gift card for Christmas, you've probably already activated it. In that case, you're kind of screwed.
"Extra Bonus RP does not apply to mobile payment methods, and because of the advance notice, there will be no refunds for RP purchases made prior to the announcement or the promotion, Riot says. "Extra Bonus RP applies to prepaid cards (the $25 card is worth 3750 RP) redeemed during the period."
As expected, players are pretty pissed, running wild with speculation that Riot intentionally planned to make this announcement days after Christmas. Here's one theory from player, Aaross:
I really don't understand why riot would announce this right after Christmas unless they were purposely trying to screw us over. It's very obvious a lot of people would get rp for Christmas and use it pretty quickly after getting it, and people would also spend money they may have gotten during Christmas on rp. I think it's really unfair that riot delayed this bonus or at least the announcement for the bonus so much. In my opinion, it's really stupid they are doing this and they really should have told us sooner. It's even more annoying that they said people wouldn't be refunded for rp purchases made earlier. It's just ridiculous. They should have put at least a little bit of thought into this before doing it. It seems like someone at riot just thought of this like the day before this announcement and they agreed it was a decent idea. Come on riot. I love you riot, but sometimes, you kinda suck.
Kinda makes sense…
