Independent studio Robotoki launched a new game today on Kickstarter called The Adventures of Dash, which needs $400,000 to complete its funding goal.
Dash is a 2D puzzle-platform adventure that stars a narcoleptic boy. Every time Dash falls asleep, according to the Kickstarter, "he finds himself in a brand new dream, filled with wildly different worlds to explore, puzzles to solve, dohickeys to find, foes to vanquish, and POGs to collect."
Developer Robert Bowling (former Call of Duty creative strategist) and his team are counting on the "drastically different" gameplay experiences and visual styles of the dreams to set Dash apart from other games.
Players can transform Dash into new forms and discover new abilities and gameplay mechanics with each dream. They can also travel freely between areas in a 2D open world.
"Each area is filled with NPCs, puzzles, and dream triggers unique to specific locations and interactions," reads the campaign page. "Explore and experiment with anything and everything to discover every last hidden dream."
Robotoki is also making the zombie game Human Element — coming to next-gen consoles (possibly the PlayStation 4 and upcoming Xbox) and mobile devices, including the Android-based microconsole Ouya, in 2015. This is Robotoki's first title to appear on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter and its second game to be announced.
The Adventures of Dash will release on PC, Mac, Linux, Ouya, iOS, Android, and unnamed consoles, with the earliest launches set for November 2013 if successfully funded. Robotoki will then adapt the game for touch-screen devices.
The team consists of a number of artists and composer Danny Baranowsky of Super Meat Boy fame.
