Rock Band 4 might well be on its way to PC platform this Fall after developer Harmonix launched a 35-day Fig crowdfunding campaign for fans.
The new version of Rock Band, the PC version, is expected to have the same features as the console version, while receiving the same content updates too.
Harmonix claims this move will "democratize" video game revenue through two paths, one being the notion of backing the game – whether that's in regards to awards or by investing into the product, thus receiving a percentage of game revenues – and the other will entail Rock Band working with gamers to create UGC (user generated content), offering the opportunity to author your own songs.
Here are a few of Rock Band 4's 'highlighted features', according to a Harmonix press release:
- World Tour Campaign Mode
- Freestyle Guitar Solos
- 65 songs included "out of the box," plus up to 33 additional songs for backers on Fig
- 1,700+ additional playable songs available as downloadable content
- Wireless guitar, drum kit and next-generation microphone support
The fourth installment to the Rockband franchise is expected to be released on Steam in the Fall of 2016 and the return of the Rock Band Network is seemingly a way of getting people involved in the game. For example/ players will be able to submit their work onto the Network by using Steam Workshop, allowing others to listen to these tracks via Steam's Rock Band 4 community.
An official statement from the game's developer reads: "Harmonix sees Fig as the logical evolution of crowdfunding. With options to become a backer or investor, Harmonix and Fig are delighted to offer the opportunity to participate in the creation and potential success of Rock Band 4 on PC."
