Rockstar details extensive weaponry options in Red Dead Redemption 2

We are officially two weeks away from Red Dead Redemption 2, the wait is finally almost over. To celebrate, Rockstar has treated us to some new details regarding the weaponry in this western epic.

Despite being set over a decade prior to the original Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar will be including more than double the firearms available in the first game. RDR 2 will feature 50 weapons ranging from your traditional revolver to weapons that pack a bigger punch like pump-action shotguns and Springfield Rifles.

Taking a page out of Grand Theft Auto V’s book, Red Dead Redemption 2 will allow players to extensively customize their weapons to improve both their looks and performance.

“With a myriad of customization options ranging from visual upgrades like new metals, woods, varnishes and engravings to performance upgrades like new barrels, grips, sights, and scopes, you can design an entirely unique weapon that looks and handles exactly the way you want it to. Every weapon’s performance varies in terms of damage, range, fire rate, accuracy and reload speed so it’s important to pick wisely depending on the situation,” reads Rockstar’s blog post.

“The high fire rate of a Double-Action Revolver lends itself well to shooting on the move from horseback. If you’re carrying something in one hand, like a lantern or small animal, consider using a Sawed-Off Shotgun which packs a much bigger punch at close range than other one-handed weapons. The Varmint Rifle is perfect for hunting small game because it’s far less likely to damage the quality of the skin and meat than a firearm with a bigger shell size.”

You’ll even be able to dual-wield weapons, you can have matching revolvers or have a sawed-off shotgun/handgun combo. You can also customize your holsters which will protect your weapons from degradation as you experience all the elements in the frontier.

Dead Eye is making a return and it’s mostly as you remember it with some tweaks like different levels which allow for weak points to be highlighted amongst other things.

“The new Dead Eye system gradually expands and becomes more sophisticated over the course of the game, from automatically selecting targets in your crosshairs, to allowing you to manually place shots on multiple targets, to being able to shoot at will in slow motion, and ultimately to pinpointing the weak spots on your enemies for even deadlier accuracy. The system grows with you and your experience and can often provide the critical edge in a life or death situation.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on October 26th, 2018 for Xbox One and PS4.
