Rocksteady chose Dual Play for Batman: Arkham Knight instead of multiplayer

Rocksteady has been hard at work on Batman: Arkham Knight, and they have done a fantastic job keeping us hooked with behind-the-scenes videos. One of their behind-the-scenes videos gave us a deeper look at the Dual Play feature in Batman: Arkham Knight.

It seems as though Rocksteady brought Dual Play to the game instead of multiplayer. They simply did not want to go down the development road for a multiplayer mode.

"We knew we didn't want to go down the route of creating a multiplayer experience," explained Arkham Knight game director Sefton Hill to Official PlayStation Magazine. "We thought the player being in control of both characters was really interesting, rather than splitting it up into a co-op experience."

Dual Play won't be available at all times, it will during certain missions in specific zones or specific bosses. It will function pretty similarly to the way you switch between party members in the Dragon Age games. "

When you get into those areas Nightwing [for example] will join you and you'll be able to switch between both characters whenever you want. You have one button press to switch between [them] and as you fight you can maintain a combo across both characters," Hill explained.

"Each character is linked into one super-villain that you're chasing after," said Hill. "So, taking Nightwing as an example, his story is based around hunting down the Penguin, who's working in Gotham and supplying weapons to all of the super-villains throughout the city".

Arkham Knight is set to release on June 23rd, on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
