Rumor: Microsoft in talks to extend PUBG console exclusivity deal

Last week, it was revealed that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) developer Bluehole Inc. was in talks with Sony to release the game on PlayStation 4 after the exclusivity period with Microsoft has come to an end. At the moment, the game is planned to release on the Xbox One later this fall and plans with Sony have not been solidified.

According to Bloomberg, individuals familiar Bluehole and Microsoft are reporting that Microsoft is in talks with Bluehole to extend the exclusivity period for PUBG. At the moment, Microsoft has decided not to comment on the rumor, instead saying, “Right now, the team is solely focused on bringing the best game possible to Xbox One and PC. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

Whether or not this rumor is true remains unclear, however, with Microsoft's lineup of console exclusive games it seems likely that they would be chasing down PUBG for a longer period of exclusivity. With PUBG being a huge hit on Steam and the very similar Fortnite Battlegrounds being a success, having the game exclusive to Xbox for a while longer could see more purchases on Microsoft's platform than on Sony.
