Rumor: NES Classic Mini reportedly ceasing production

The NES Classic has been notoriously hard to get a hold of. The device has been sold out since it first launched in November 2016 and hasn't seen much respite from the shortage. Even high-level game industry folks have spoken out about the shortage.

While scalpers have been successfully turning around to eBay to flip the NES Classic for a profit, there's potentially some worse news on the horizon.

Take this with a grain of salt as Nintendo has not confirmed anything related to the NES Classic and production ceasing. That being said, a Norwegian retailer, as well as other Nordic retailers are suggesting that the NES Classic is ceasing production in the Nordic region.

A Norwegian retailer, Spillsjappa, has confirmed that the NES Classic will only be available until April, after that, there will be no more NES Classic Mini's available from the general distributor of the device in Nordic countries. The translation of the confirmation is rough at best, but the general idea of the post is that the Nordic Nintendo importer Bergsala AB has expired (or discontinued) the NES Classic. The last deliveries of the console will be sent out in March and April, "then it's over." The retailer will send out emails to those who had pre-ordered the console and will not be receiving it.

The retailer went on to apologize that they will not be able to fulfill all pre-orders, saying that they "regret" this and they had been initially informed that they would "soon be able to deliver to all" but received a "contra message" that stated otherwise.

In reply to those wondering if the drought of NES Classics would spill into the rest of Europe, Spillsjappa stated that they didn't have any information on whether Nintendo would be producing more NES Classics for the European market.

In addition to this, other retailers in the region have not outright revealed that the NES Classic's production might have been ceased. Instead, they are emailing customers informing them that their order might be canceled.
