While we patiently await the release of the beefed up Xbox One X, Microsoft is already tinkering away on a new Xbox – at least that's what an insider is reporting.
According to Microsoft insider Jez Corden of Windows Central, Microsoft is designing the next Xbox and it has a code name too. No further details were offered, however, it makes sense to see Microsoft designing the next iteration in the Xbox console series.
Saying 'next Xbox' is relatively vague. The insider could be talking about the next mainline entry for the console or another step up in the series.
The Xbox 360 saw roughly five different versions in its shelf life, with a new version releasing around every two years (sometimes one year apart). With the Xbox One having released in 2013, the Xbox One S in 2016, and the Xbox One X releasing later this year (2017), a new version of the Xbox One in two years isn't far off from Microsoft's history.
The Xbox One has been on the market for four years and if the design phase for the next Xbox takes around a year, we will need another year for production and planning, and before you know it, the Xbox One X will be as underpowered as the Xbox One is compared to the new console. It will be time for a step up.
