We all know that Tomb Raider will feature a very story-driven single player mode, that will tell the origin stories of Lara Croft. I'm almost positive no one was thinking "But where is the multiplayer?" Especially since the Tomb Raider series never had any sort of multiplayer component. However, much like Uncharted started out as a single player game, and then added a multiplayer in its subsequent games, it looks like it's time for Tomb Raider to get more social.
According to All Games Beta, a product listing on the UK retailer GAME, listed these following features:
Key Features
- A Turning Point: Experience Lara Croft’s intense origin story from a young woman to a hardened survivor.
- An All-New Raiding Experience: Explore a mysterious island filled with environmental puzzles, visceral combat, and ancient tombs to discover.
- Fight to Live: Salvage resources, gain experience, and upgrade Lara’s weapons to survive the island’s hostile inhabitants.
- Survive as a Team: Play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara’s Shipmates or Yamatai’s Scavengers.
The listing has been changed since its original posting. The last key feature does seem to hint that there will indeed be a multiplayer mode. To further support this claim, Square Enix teased a "special secret announcement" in a video earlier this year, which promised it would "change the way you play Tomb Raider forever."
