Assassin’s Creed Unity isn’t the only entry the franchise will see in 2014. If you thought Ubisoft was milking the cow dry before, boy do we have news for you: there’s a second Assassin’s Creed game coming out this year. Fresh off last week’s leak, Kotaku is back with more details regarding Comet, set to release for PS3 and Xbox 360.
According to Kotaku’s sources, Assassin’s Creed Comet is set in 1758 and stars Shay, a member of the Templars. Yes, the same Templars who aren’t on the best of terms with assassins. Shay, a lowly sailor, will reportedly betray his captain and set sail along the Atlantic Ocean, including a stop in New York City. We will see returns of familiar Assassin’s Creed characters such as Haytham Kenway (also a Templar, son of Assassin Creed IV: Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway, and father of Assassin Creed III protagonist Connor), Adewalé, and others.
It appears that the franchise is separating into two directions with Unity focusing more on traditional Assassin’s Creed fare and Comet staying on the high seas and featuring naval gameplay.
Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but Kotaku has been pretty spot-on in the past with Assassin’s Creed, so I’d be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. As always, keep in mind that none of this has been confirmed as of this writing.
