SDCC 2016: Lionsgate unveils an up-close look at the new Power Rangers helmets

They said they'd be more "alien", and they didn't disappoint.

Lionsgate has revealed an up-close look at the new Rangers' helmets and Power Coins for the upcoming Power Rangers movie.

The 2016 San Diego Comic Con International is officially in full swing. Droves of fans come from all over the world to flood the convention center and witness what the coming year has in store for their favorite franchises and media. This year, one of the most anticipated releases to be featured is next year's Power Rangers reboot.

We've already got our first look at what the Rangers will look like in the modernized interpretations of their classic suits, but Lionsgate's display for the movie features an up-close look at the new helmets and Power Coins to be adorned by the newest squad of teenage superheroes.

As you can see, the helmets seem to still maintain some of the recognizable features of their original counterparts, but with the "alien" feel that the studio had pitched initially. Most notable in this display is the addition of the Power Coins seen beneath the helmets.

For those unfamiliar, the Power Coins are actually the source fo the Rangers' power. The coins are what allow our heroes to "morph" into the titular saviors using their Power Morphers, as well as summon their wepaons and Zords. The coins have now taken on a more ancient look; reminiscent of something encased in amber. An even closer look at the new gear can be seen on the next page!
