A newly updated ESRB rating and multiple, cryptic teases from publisher Sega are massively hinting at an imminent announcement that the company’s 2011 stylish and mature puzzle-platformer/dating sim Catherine is going to appear on PC soon.
Evidence has quickly accumulated during this week that Catherine is indeed inbound for the enjoyment of PC players. The first tease was a surprise and honestly weird update on the Steam Community Forums of Sega’s other game Bayonetta. Users were greeted not with a statement, not even a proper sentence. Instead, the entire news post consists of a sheep image with the fitting title “Baa”. This was then quickly followed up by a similar sheep teaser on the Valkyria Chronicles 4 forums.
Speculation started and very quickly ended at Catherine, since that game has a ton of sheep imagery going on. Soon afterwards, an updated ESRB rating for the original game surfaced which now included the PC as a platform. What might look like a logical step has led to some confusion among users however.
You see, developer Atlus announced a remastered version of the game in Catherine: Full Body in 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. The remaster features the expected improved visual fidelity but will furhter include a third girl, new game modes and more content. Naturally, Sega’s teases made everyone think that the remaster is headed for PC, but with the new ESRB rating it could rather be the original game.
Sega hasn’t put out an official statement which version is actually planned for a PC release but it looks like some version of Catherine is coming. Of course, PC players are still hoping that Sega will treat them not as second-class customers and give them an old and feature-lacking game.
In the meantime, check out our original review of Catherine in preparation for Catherine: Full Body which is set to release this year.
