Wait, what? Sega investing in eSports? Yep, it's true – Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown for PS3 will be heading to the Evo Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada as a side tournament, with $15k up for grabs. The top 16 players in the tournament will be awarded a piece of the pie, so it's anyone's game. Though, if you ask me, Fuudo is looking pretty good for the top slot in both this tournament and the Super Street Fighter 4 AE tournament. He won last year's Evo in the latter, and has been showing strong finishes in international tournaments lately.
So, why is it a side tournament with such a large prize you ask? Evo's rules state that in order to be considered for a main tournament game, the game must have been out for six months. A similar fate awaited the amazing Skullgirls that was released earlier last month. All tournament registration will be handled by Sega, so stay tuned for further information on that as Evo (July 6-8) approaches.
