Despite having its sequel cancelled after the developer closed down, Square Enix's Sleeping Dogs is getting a movie starring Rogue One's Donnie Yen. Yen used to be a fight choreographer before moving on to star in movies like IP Man, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and the aforementioned Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The movie is currently in the early stages of development but will likely take aspects from the game. For those who never played Sleeping Dogs, an undercover cop named Wei Shen must infiltrate the Triads (who he used to be affiliated with) and take them down from the inside. Throughout the game, Shen falls deep into the life of crime and finds himself torn between his career and his new found crime family. The game mixes epic gunplay with brutal hand-to-hand martial arts combat and has various intense chases that see the player jumping between cars and hijacking them.
Yen is known for his amazing stunts so it'll be great to see him perform some of the amazing actions Wei Shen does. It'll also be interesting to see how the movie performs critically due to the poor history of video game movies.
We'll continue to keep you updated on the Sleeping Dogs movie as we learn more.
