The official Far Cry 5 trailer released last week along with a couple details that might have lit the rage fire in some gamers. According to the reveal, Far Cry 5 will be set in a fictional rural town in America where a junior deputy sets out to take down a fanatical doomsday cult called Eden Gate.
On top giving us a look at the game's setting, the reveal also detailed some supporting characters in the game, including Pastor Jerome, a priest who lost his followers to the cult in the trailer, Mary May the explosive bartender, and Nick Rye, a pilot who will probably end up being fairly useful.
While the details seem innocent enough, someone claiming to be the voice "the American gamers" has taken it upon themselves to create a petition against Ubisoft. Now, it's unclear whether the petition creator, Gamers United, created this in jest or if it's their true objection to the game and its themes.
Here's a general summary of the petition, as per the petition creators wording:
"Enough is enough UbiSoft. We’ve sat through your multicultural lectures and your preachy games aimed at degenerates and miscegenators. We’ve tolerated it in the name of gameplay design and innovation. But no more! Far Cry 5 is an insult to your fanbase, the Americans who make up the majority of your customers, and it’s time you woke up to that fact. Change this, or cancel it.
"…It’s time to draw a line in the sand. We, the American gamers that make up the majority of your userbase, demand to you cancel this game, or alter it to be less offensive to your main player base. In these times, you must understand that there might be some violent repurcussions if you intend to follow through with your pointless criticism.
"…Follow one of more of these and this game will be saved from PC hell and multicultural development. We Americans have so few games to call our own, and we’re tired of losing them to multi-cultural bullshit."
The petition requests that Ubisoft changes the villains in the game to something "more realistic" than predominantly white "American Christians" and to include other ethnicities. It is also suggested that the plot could be altered to feature an oppressive government and to change the game's setting from the United States.
Far Cry 5 releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 27th, 2018.
