Someone predicted the Game of Thrones ‘The Door’ twist back in 2008 – as a joke

Be ware of spoilers!

Last night's episode of Game of Thrones (Season 6, Episode 5 "the Door") was not for the faint of heart. If you ended the episode with tears in your eyes, you are probably already aware of the next emotional step, anger. Why? Well, it has to do with the part of the episode that was so upsetting, and no, I'm not talking about Jorah.

If you haven't watched the episode, you probably won't want to read this. So… Go away. If you have watched the episode, you might be entertained by this.

Spoiler

Someone on Reddit, with the memory of an elephant, managed to somehow recall a forum post from 2008 that had correctly guessed the meaning behind Hodor… Except they did it as a joke. Somehow, that doesn't make the situation any less sad.

Here's the prediction from Myrddin made back in 2008.

The poor guy is just asking someone to hold the door for him, since he's always carrying someone else around. After a while, "Hold the door" became "Hold the doorHold the doorHoldoorHodoor. Dammit! Hold the door!" His mind finally snapped, and now all he can say is Hodor.

This might not mean much to you, unless you saw last night's episode where Bran took over Hodor's body while in a vision of the past. In the past, he was looking at Hodor before he was Hodor, while he was Wylis (or Willis or Wyllis or however you want to spell it).

Bran needed to take over Hodor's body to save his own life and in doing so, he sacrificed Hodor's life. Young Hodor had to witness his own death with Meera yelling "hold the door", while still a boy… causing him to seizure out and say "Hodor" for the rest of his life. Yeah, Bran ruined his life. Bran also climbed the tower in the first episode and ruined everyone’s life by starting a war.

Oh and he just ended Summer by having the Children of the Forest sacrifice themselves for him. No biggie.

Screw Bran.
