Sonic the Hedgehog Returns to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thanksgiving is perhaps the most American of holidays, because it celebrates two of our favorite things: eating absurd amounts of food, and watching television. Unfortunately, the holiday seems to neglect our most favorite thing, video games. Though Sega is looking to inject some game love back into the holiday, with a gigantic Sonic the Hedgehog balloon in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

As cool as the balloon is, this isn't the first appearance of Sonic in the parade. A Sonic balloon was actually featured all the way back in 1993, making this rodent the first ever video-game themed balloon in the parade's history. Sadly, the original balloon got murdered by a lightpost, though we're hoping Sonic has learned much in the fifteen or so years since. Whether the Pikachu balloon will return so these two inflatable juggernauts can have it out Smash Bros. style remains to be seen.
