Sony CES 2014: All quiet on the PS4 front

Sony's 2014 may be "all about 'play'" but very little of the company's CES press conference had to do with the very platforms that would drive such a year. Sony took the stage last night and had little to say about the newly released PlayStation 4, or even the PlayStation Vita for that matter.

Granted, this is to be expected from the Consumer Electronics Expo, as video games have their own expos hosted throughout the year, but there was excitement among the PlayStation community that Sony would at least reveal the long-rumored Virtual Reality headset. Instead, we got more talk about 4K TV, smartphones, cameras, and things of that sort.

For tech enthusiasts, those can be exciting topics for Sony to cover, but for gamers it was all quiet on the PlayStation front. Again, CES presents an opportunity for Sony to show off its other electronics so while the PS4's absence isn't too shocking, it's still a bit disheartening — especially given the "Play" keyword.

On the plus side, Sony's focus on "Play" could mean big things for PlayStation this year.
