Sony insists ‘no problem between PlayStation and EA’

Sony is not concerned over the apparent relationship between Electronic Arts and Microsoft with the Xbox One. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, EA and Microsoft has a deal in place that gives those who purchase the Xbox One at launch in Europe a free copy of FIFA 14. Beyond the free game, EA and Microsoft have partnered on numerous occasions for exclusive content on the Xbox One. And let's not forget EA's Xbox One exclusive game, Titanfall (also coming to PC).

Despite the fact that many of EA's games are coming to PS4 as well, the Xbox One seems to have been getting the majority of love from EA. Sony insists there's no problem.

"No, not at all," SCEE boss Jim Ryan told MCVUK when asked if there was a problem between PlayStation and EA.

"It’s common knowledge that EA has done a deal with Microsoft, but all of its games – Battlefield, Need for Speed, FIFA – are all on PS4," he reminded. "In fact, the only platform you could play Battlefield 4 at Gamescom was on PS4. Try and find that on Xbox One."

It was quite the opposite at PAX where Battlefield 4 was shown at Xbox's booth, though it was also said to be running on PCs at the booth, and not on the Xbox One as it appeared.

EA took a similar approach when asked about their deals with Microsoft. Last month, EA Labels' president Frank Gibeau referred to the perception of a "strategic tilt" against Sony as a "messaging error" on EA's part. He insisted the company's policy is to be "platform-agnostic," and acknowledged that there's also potential for Sony exclusivity deals too.
