Sony: PS3 will not be forgotten when PS4 launches

Sony has maintained that the PlayStation 3 will have a 10-year lifecycle — at least. Like the PS2 before it, which continues to sell actually, the PS3 will not be forgotten about with the launch of the PlayStation 4.

"We never forget current gen when next gen launches and PS3 will be no different," SCEE Jim Ryan told gamers in a AMA on gamer.no.

For proof, Ryan pointed to upcoming releases like Beyond: Two Souls and Gran Turismo 6. "Witness the fact that we brought brilliant new IP to the console this year in The Last of Us," he said, "and Beyond Two Souls, not to mention the small matter of GT6 coming in December."

As you can see, there's still plenty of support for the PlayStation 3 — almost too much if you ask me. While many consider The Last of Us to be the big hoorah for the PS3, as we usher in the PS4, it's clear Sony has a long-term commitment to the system.

"Historically PlayStation platforms have had very long lifecycles," Ryan said. Granted, the response was in question to Sony's belief that the PS4 will also last for 10 years, but the same logic can be applied to current gen systems. "PS2 is still goign strong in some countries, believe it or not!"

So those of you not planning on jumping on the next-gen bandwagon right away, fear not. Sony will continue to grace your PlayStation 3 with great games.
