Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida ‘disappointed, but not worried’ with low PS4 review scores

Yesterday, reviews of Sony's first-party PS4 games including Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Resogun were published for everyone to see. Despite the hype surrounding the launch of Sony's next-gen system, there's always been concern over the system's launch lineup.

Killzone: Shadow Fall, the big first-party blockbuster shooter, has been met with mixed reviews while Knack was largely criticized. Of all the reviews, Resogun received the most positive scores.

And while Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios, admitted he was "disappointed" with the initial low scores, he's not necessarily worried.

"Yeah, it's disappointing to see some of the low scores. I haven't spent enough time reading reviews, but I would characterize them as mixed," Yoshida told GamesIndustry International.

"And with this launch there are lots of games coming out, so the media must be very busy going through the games quickly, and especially since the online functionality wasn't ready until the last couple days," he added.

"So we have to look at how much time they spend on what aspect of the games and how that may be contributing to some of the lower scores.

"It's disappointing but I don't think it's worrisome for the launch of the system," he said. The PlayStation 4 is currently sold out at most retailers for launch, which just so happens to be tomorrow, November 15 in North America. It seems consumers, despite rather pedestrian reviews, are still committed to their pre-orders. And why shouldn't they be? While I'll agree the launch lineup is rather weak, I'm sure it'll pickup in the coming months — starting tonight with Sony's PlayStation 4 All Access event.
