Sony urges gamers to ‘be patient’ with PS4 supply

Walking into several retailer stores post-Holiday break I noticed countless Xbox One systems on the shelves (well, tucked away behind locked glass). The PlayStation 4? Noticeably absent. There's no doubt demand for Sony's new console is at a ridiculously high level, but even with a staggered launch, it's clear Sony is having trouble keeping up with supply in the 32 markets. Regardless of reason, fans are upset.

Taking to Twitter, Sony's President of Worldwide Studios Shuehei Yoshida urged gamers looking for a PlayStation 4 to "be patient." Back in December, Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House acknowledged the PS4 would "somewhat supply-challenged for the remainder of the calendar year," but he did say that Sony's hopes to "satisfy that pent-up demand as we get out to January and February."

We're only in the beginning days of January, but it's clear frustration is beginning to set in. Heck, even Sony is frustrated at their inability to get customers what they want, with the PS4 supply shortage breaking SCEA president Jack Tretton's heart.

Yoshida couldn't comment on how many systems have been sold worldwide since launch, but Sony expects to sell five million PS4 consoles by the end of its fiscal year in March 2014. As of December 1st, Sony had sold through 2.1 million PS4 consoles across the world. It released first in the United States where it went on to sell over one million units in just the first 24 hours.
