SOPA on hold for now

As many of you are most likely aware, several website are "blacking out" tomorrow to show their dislike of the SOPA campaign. Since its introduction, SOPA has been criticized for it strict control, and violation of the first amendment – rightly so. While the campaign looked certain to pass, it is being shelved for now.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), House Oversight Chairman, says that Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has told him that he won't "bring SOPA up to a vote in the House, shelving the proposed legislation for the time being."

Issa sent the following statement to GameInformer:

"While I remain concerned about Senate action on the Protect IP Act [PIPA], I am confident that flawed legislation will not be taken up by this House. Majority Leader Cantor has assured me that we will continue to work to address outstanding concerns and work to build consensus prior to any anti-piracy legislation coming before the House for a vote."

I think all of us here agree that SOPA is a joke, and could harm many of our favorite websites, but doesn't it seem a little ironic that a bill that is threatening to shut down websites is being protested by having sites black out for a day?
