Spartacus Legends, an upcoming fighting game based on STARZ Entertainment's popular series, is going free-to-play, Ubisoft announced today.
It will be launching for Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers as part of the pilot free-to-play program on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360. It will also be released as a free-to-play title on PlayStation Network.
Spartacus Legends, which was announced back in July, allows players to experience "primeval gladiator moments" that take them from inside the ludos to the brutal battle arenas as they attempt to become a legend. The game features thousands of weapon combinations and a robust skill system with plenty of customization options.
The new free-to-play model offers gamers an opportunity to jump right into the deadly battle arenas while ensuring play stays fair through a fame system; the higher-tier the equipment that is available for purchase, the more fame that is necessary to use that equipment. Spartacus Legends will be free to download and fueled with a micro-transaction model.
Spartacus Legends is set to release in Winter 2013 in conjunction with "Spartacus: War of the Damned" which is scheduled to air on STARZ in January 2013.
