In 2002, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film was released to critical acclaim and tons of box office success. The movie changed summers forever as more and more blockbusters began to pop up. The first Spider-Man movie was the first film to bring in $100 million on its opening weekend and the series began to make more and more money with each entry. Spider-Man 3 ended Raimi's series with another record by bringing in $381 million on its opening weekend only to be beaten by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince a few years later.
While not quite as impressive as Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming kicked off its theatrical run to $256 million worldwide opening making it the third biggest opening weekend of 2017 and the 31st biggest opening weekend of all time. Domestically the film pulled in $117 million with another $139 million coming in from overseas markets. The movie shows that Spidey is still kicking, even after being rebooted three times in less than 20 years. Of course, this time it's a bit different because Spider-Man does have the benefit of being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe meaning he's finally able to interact with characters like Iron Man.
The movie is being incredibly well-recieved and is currently tied with Logan for the highest rated superhero film of 2017 on Rotten Tomatoes. In GameZone's review, we called it a "spectacular achievement for Marvel" and praised Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
