Epic Games has announced an agreement with Square Enix which grants the firm a group-wide license to develop games using Unreal Engine 3 as well as Unreal Engine 4 technology.
Epic Games Japan worked directly with Square Enix on the new license.
“Epic has a strong relationship with Square Enix, and it’s an honor to provide their creative and technical talent with the best game technology available for licensing,” said Taka Kawasaki, territory manager of Epic Games Japan. “We look forward to supporting their developers with world-class tools for years to come.”
Square Enix's Demons' Score, which was released last month for iOS and Android, was creating with Unreal Engine 3. Square Enix is the first developer that's been announced to have signed a long-term licensing agreement for Unreal Engine 4.
Back in July, Epic Games revealed that its PC exclusive title, Fortnite, would be the first game to use Unreal Engine 4 technology.
