In the latest Star Wars Battlefront community update, developer DICE addressed a medley of questions plucked from social media feeds and fan comments. The high points are as follows:
- Star Wars Battlefront will be playable at the EB Games Expo in Sydney, Australia from October 2 through October 4; the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California from August 14 through August 16; and Gamescom in Cologne, Germany from August 5 through August 9. The latter will also host the reveal of a new multiplayer mode.
- Although only three playable Heroes/Villains—Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Boba Fett—have been shown thus far, plenty of other characters will soon be revealed. DICE is still deliberating over how frequently these characters will be playable in a given battle.
- Minimum and recommended PC specifications will be provided as development progresses and the game is further optimized.
- Vehicles will vary based on maps. Hoth, for example, comes with snowspeeders, TIE fighters and X-Wings. Endor, on the other hand, “will feature an absolutely massive AT-AT.” Heroes/Villains will be doled out in the same way. As EA confirmed in an earlier post, vehicles will be tied to power ups found throughout maps, which immediately spawn you inside a vehicle. Y-Wings will remain support vehicles that can be called in but not flown by players.
- Survival missions require that you play as the Rebels, but Battles and Hero Battles allow you to choose between the Rebels and Imperials.
- Twi’leks, Sullustans, Zabraks, Quarrens and other races will be unlockable for the Rebel faction.
As previously reported, online multiplayer will not support split-screen play. However, two-player co-op missions will be available on PS4 and Xbox One. In addition, Missions will not yield multiplayer experience but will reward credits to be put toward upgrades.
