Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has obliterated the box office, fans have turned their attention towards the Star Wars films that are on the way. For some reason, fans are ignoring Star Wars: Episode 8 and going after Star Wars: Episode 9 with a petition to remove Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow as director of the film and replace him with George Lucas.
As it turns out, Trevorrow saw the petition for his removal – on the very day that he was supposedly giving a speech about how he wants to 'channel' the 'raw creativity and boldness' that Lucas has brought to the series.
"It's funny," said Trevorrow to Entertainment Tonight. "I saw that [petition], and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we're going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy."
Trevorrow spent very little time commenting on the petition and more time assuring fans that he was looking to mimic the creativity of the original director and creator of the series. The Episode 9 director went on to emphasize how inventive Lucas was when it came to Star Wars.
"When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy," explains Trevorrow. "When you try to pitch what that movie's about — if you've never heard of Star Wars before, you say, 'Here's a character. His father's part robot, but he can also do magic. And there's a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He's got a dog for a friend!' — it sounds insane. But it's the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it."
