Star Wars: Episode VIII will reveal who Rey’s parents are

One of the biggest questions since 2015's biggest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is who are the parents of the main character, Rey? Even before the film released, people speculated who she could be related to in the Star Wars universe (because everyone has to be related, right?) It sparked dozens of fan theories ranging from her being the daughter of legendary Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi all the way to the daughter of Luke Skywalker.

There are dozens of variations on these theories and if you want to give your brain an exercise, you may want to go dig around on Google for a little bit. At the moment, we have no real concrete answer as to who her parents are or if she even has parents, she could be a virgin birth like Anakin Skywalker.

Daisy Ridley who plays Rey in the new Star Wars films has gone on record to say she knows who her fictional parents are and has even said she doesn't think it's too fascinating. That could be because she's attached to the project so she doesn't have all these theories bubbling in her brain or that the overall story of the movie is more interesting than two people who bumped uglies one time to give us a new jedi hero.

Filming wrapped up just a few months ago on the highly anticipated sequel due out next winter and according to Ridley, we will indeed find out who gave us the lovable Rey. When asked in an interview with Vulture about if she is in the Kenobi bloodline she replied with "We will see in a year," Ridley said. "Just sit tight on that question."

Ridley was also quick to deny that she was the daughter of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story protagonist, Jyn Erso. “I mean, I think historically it wouldn’t work, because she is … Darth Vader is there …  so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma." It seems that she is unrelated to Erso as she probably wouldn't have outed her as Rey's grandmother.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to release December 16th, 2016. The untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters on December 15th, 2017.
