Star Wars’ John Boyega takes lead role in Pacific Rim 2

One of the last things we heard about Pacific Rim 2 was that the project had not been cancelled after all, and that the executive behind Season 1 of Daredevil and the creator of Spartacus, Steven S. DeKnight, was set to direct the film. Of course, that meant we lost Guillermo Del Toro, who was responsible for the first film.

There's some good news for the upcoming film, John Boyega is taking the lead role in the film and production will begin later this year! That's right folks, it's actually happening. Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba, who appeared in the original film.

The production team for the movie is pretty full with Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro to produce the film, along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions.

Details on the plot have been scarce, but with Boyega taking the role of Elba's son we can assume that the film will take place after the events of the original film.
