Director J.J. Abrams promised there'd be no new trailer or footage of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at this weekend's D23 Expo, but that doesn't mean fans were treated to other surprises.
Disney and Lucasfilm revealed today the official poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If it looks a bit familiar, that's because it was drawn by artist Drew Struzan, who famously created the iconic posters for the original Star Wars films.
The poster has that same iconic imagery, featuring newcomers Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren. It also features Han Solo, the only character from the original trilogy we've seen so far (unless you count Chewbacca or the leaked Luke Skywalker image).
Even more interesting, the poster confirms what many had already expected — Finn will have some sort of Jedi powers (or at least wield a lightsaber at some point) in the film.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015. The next trailer for the highly anticipated film is scheduled to debut sometime in the fall. Hopefully it will clear up some of these questions we have.
In related news, Disney also announced today plans for two Star Wars-themed expansions at their theme parks.
