StarCraft 2 player Mihaylo "Kas" Hayda has been disqualified from the Fragbite Masters tournament due to threats he made on Twitter.
According to the Fragbite website, "Kas" made an "offensive post" on social media towards his opponent. While Fragbite was a bit vague in its description, the eagle-eyed folks over at NeoGAF located the tweet, which read: "Going to rape some girl soon #fragbitemasters". Although "Kas" claimed it to be a joke, nobody found it funny.
"First of all, I have to say that this is terrible. We will never stand for this kind of behaviour, and therefore a disqualification is highly appropriate. We need to show the players that these kinds of toxic acts have consequences. We have learned that the opponent in question has been dealt criticism for our penalty towards Kas, but we can assure you, this decision was made completely by the Fragbite Masters staff," Pontus Eskilsson, Head of Fragbite Masters, said.
If eSports players are going to be taken seriously, they need to act more professionally (as if traditional sports athletes do that, ha!). The point is, if you are in the media spotlight — hell, even if you aren't in the spotlight — you don't make threats. You don't threaten to kill someone. You don't threaten to rape someone. You don't threaten people; that's common sense.
