You know when you're playing an online game and then some guy kills you in an incredibly mind boggling way so you shout out "Hacker!"? Well, if that happened to you recently while you were playing on Steam, you might have been right!
After Steam's annual summer sale wrapped up this year, Valve's Anti-Cheat (VAC) system detected a 40,411 mischevious users, nearly triple the previous all-time high which was 15,227 in October 2016. An additional 4,972 were also banned after players reported the cheaters in-game.
It's been reported via tracking site Vac-Ban that a total of $9,580 worth of digital items and skins were lost when the accounts were banned. That's not even counting the hundreds, probably even thousands of dollars in games registered to those accounts that can no longer be used.
Play nice, kids. Cheating isn't worth it.
