Steam Greenlight will facilitate the submissions process for indie devs

Valve's newly announced Steam Greenlight allows the community to choose which games should appear on Steam.

Jason Holtman, Valve's director of business development, says the new program will speed up the process of sorting through thousands of submitted indie games.

Steam Greenlight is an extension of the Steam Workshop, which lets players create their own content. It borrows the same idea, this time allowing users to vote on which games they like the sound of best. It's an easier way for Valve to judge interest in a game first before deciding whether to approve a title.

Holtman called the challenge of determining which games are suitable for Steam "an intractable problem." He said "there's no way to tell what's awesome and what will succeed."

Greenlight should help Valve prioritize future releases.
