The critics have spoken, and while many fans have enjoyed the film, just as many have not. It doesn't take long for word to get around these days, and apparently, Suicide Squad has taken a pretty big hit at the box office in just one day. After grossing $65.1 million on Friday, August 5th (including the preview night on Thursday), the movie saw a significant drop-off yesterday, resulting in an expected total below $40 million. Now the film is looking at an opening weekend total of about $130 million.
The drop-off from Friday to Saturday is not uncommon on opening weekends for movies, it's just the percentage that is concerning. Other super-hero films that have released this year, such as Deadpool, Captain America: Civil War, Batman v Superman and X-Men: Apocalypse also experienced them. But not to this extent. However, it should be noted that the percentage of drop-off and critical reception do appear to have a correlation.
Here are the figures for the other films:
Suicide Squad is currently sitting at Metascore of 40, which qualifies as "Mixed" on Metacritic (at least for movies).
