Update:
The sources on this are quite dated, so we reached out to Sony and Broken Lizard for an update on the status of Super Troopers 2. We will update this article when we get a response.
Original:
Steve Lemme of Broken Lizard has confirmed what everyone has been waiting to hear: Super Troopers is getting a sequel. The 2001 comedy about Vermont state troopers that do little police work and do lots of shenanigans has had rumors of a sequel going around for years.
Lemme told Us Weekly, "The fans have been asking for it for a while, but we were finally able to package everything together." He also said that they almost have all of the $27 million budget they need, and are going to raise the rest through Kickstarter. As long as the money is raised, Fox plans to distribute the film.
The movie is definitely a sequel, not a prequel, and will pick up where the first one left off. Lemme also said the opening scene will top the first movie's opening scene, and that "Everybody who had a mustache in the first one will grow it back."
Super Troopers 2 plans to start filming early next year.
