Take-Two CEO discusses Wii U potential

Unless Wii U sales pick up, don't expect to see Grand Theft Auto 5 or any other Take-Two game on the platform. Speaking about the possibility of bringing its games to other platforms, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said his company hasn't talked specifics, but is all about bringing their games to where the consumers are.

"We haven't talked about specific titles in development, but we've said our strategy is to meet consumers where they are," he told GamesIndustry. "If they're buying hardware, we'll be there with software."

There in lies Nintendo's problem with the Wii U. With just 2.41 million Wii U consoles sold in the nine month period ending December 31, 2013, there's very little incentive for companies to bring their games to the system. And with such few third-party games, there's little reason for consumers to actually buy the Wii U. So it comes down to first-party exclusive titles and while Nintendo has some of the best franchises in the industry, they haven't turned the Wii U into a must-own system.

Even if Wii U sales improve, there could be another obstacle in its way. "That said, we make these really big, AAA titles that work on some platforms, but not others."

Is the Wii U built for the future? If EA's Frostbite 3 engine is any indication, then no.
