Take-Two CEO says GTA Online won’t be around forever

Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick has revealed that Grand Theft Auto Online was never supposed to be a permanant entity, and constant updates to the game's online game mode will stop at some point.

Many gamers enjoy the fun and games of GTA Online, however it would seem that Zelnick is attempting to bring everybody back down to reality – things don't last forever.

He said: "We do expect GTA Online's results to moderate because October will be three years since we released it. Not only was it not our intention that GTA Online was permanent, but it's important that it not be permanent. We have to rest the franchise at some point."

Such comments, made by the CEO of Take-Two – the parent company of Rockstar – come on the back of the developer's recent "Finance and Felony" update announcement.

'Further Adventures in Finance and Felony' is the name that has been handed to GTA Online's latest update, giving gamers an opportunity to become their own CEO of a criminal faction.

This update has been touted as one of the "biggest and deepest" updates that Rockstar have worked on to-date, and with Zelnick's comments taken into account, there's an almost 'enjoy it while it lasts' feel about the game's future.

With that being said, Zelnick's comments are specific to GTA Online. Fans like to rally around the possibility of new Story mode content being added to the game, and that hasn't been entirely ruled out as of yet.

As the old saying goes, there is no smoke without fire. As rumours have been piling up about potential new offline additions to the game for some time, recent reports suggest that Rockstar are looking to bring in some new San Andreas regions via DLC.

One Rockstar artist's portfolio has reportedly been leaked, hence the speculation, so go ahead and check out the screenshots by clicking here.
