Take-Two says THQ won’t be around for much longer

Is THQ going under? Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick certainly seems to think so, reports Joystiq. Relying so heavily on licensed properties is bad for business, Zelnick believes, and despite the fact that THQ has "some good games," he doesn't think the level of quality is where it should be.

"THQ's strategy was licensed properties, first and foremost," stated the Take-Two boss. "License stuff from other people, whether it's UFC or WWE or a motion picture property, and make a game around that. And our approach, since we took over the company, is 100 percent owned intellectual property."

Zelnick went on to say that according to Metacritic, Take-Two has the "highest quality ratings among third-party publishers." He then made a bold statement: "THQ won't be around in six months."

Shortly after the original story broke out, THQ responded by contacting Joystiq with the following message: "Obviously, Mr. Zelnick's perception of THQ is outdated and inaccurate. His comments are irresponsible and false. Perhaps he would be better off commenting on his own business."

There's only one way to settle this: cage match, loser leaves town.
