Terminator Resistance announced and hitting just in time for Dark Fate

Reef Entertainment and Teyon have announced a brand-new first-person shooter set in the Terminator universe. Terminator Resistance will come out for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 3rd in North America and November 15 in Europe. Watch the announcement trailer here!

Now, here’s a franchise that has enjoyed a dubious honor of never really having had a great video game adaptation. While the Terminator movies – especially the first two – stand tall among the most influential movies of all time, the franchises many attempts to break into the gaming medium never really panned out. For the most part, gaming fans had to do with mediocre and forgettable Terminator games.

Whether Terminator Resistance will succeed in breaking that trend remains to be seen. But to be honest, the announcement trailer which consists of seemingly pure gameplay fails to instill us with confidence in that regard, but to be brutally frank. Just getting an O.K. Terminator game would already be very welcoming.

In terms of setting, Terminator Resistance takes place in the “far” future of 2028, 31 years after the original Judgement Day in the movie franchise. You play as Jacob Rivers, an entirely original character who joins the human resistance against the Skynet. For some unknown reason, the evil A.I. is out to terminate you, and it’s now up to you to find out why. While the majority of Terminator movies take place in the current time, the future setting makes a lot of sense as a game. Mowing down all types of menacing robots with heavy-duty weapons is simply much more satisfying (and easy) to translate into a game.

With a release date of early December in the States, the game is also conveniently close to the theatrical release of the new Terminator: Dark Fate movie. We just hope both the new movie and game turn out well.

Here’s the official game description:

  • Resist the machines! Fight against a selection of iconic enemies from the films, including the T-800, as well as a host of enemies that are brand new to the Terminator universe.
  • Equip an arsenal of plasma weaponry to run and gun or sneak and hack through sprawling environments! The world isn’t as forgiving as it used to be so you’ll need to search for scraps to trade and craft.
  • Choose the kind of hero you want to be by levelling up your skills while exploring post-Apocalyptic Los Angeles. Complete story missions to rise through the ranks of the Resistance as well as side-quests to help your friends.
  • Change the fate of mankind! Protect a motley crew of survivors, each with their own motivations and backstories. The actions you take throughout the game will impact their survival and change the ending you get.
