After tons of script rewrites and general uncertainty over whether or not it would ever get off the ground, Ghostbusters 3 has a cast. An all-female cast. And some of the choices are awesome and surprising.
Director Paul Feig posted a picture on Twitter with no explanation. The picture was of four actresses: Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy.
McCarthy was already in talks for one of the leads, and she has worked with Feig on Spy, Bridesmaids, and The Heat. Wiig has been wanted by fans (and was even mentioned by Bill Murray) since the very beginning of the 'all-female cast' talks. The other two actresses are less known, but like Wiig, were on SNL. Leslie Jones joined SNL in early 2014 and is not a feature player on the show. She's one of the stronger comedians on Saturday Night Live now. Kate McKinnon joined SNL in 2012 and is amazing at, well, everything. Accents, impressions, just, everything.

Just last week, Feig gave some details on the third Ghostbusters, saying that it's not a parody, and that it acknowledges that the other movies existed. He also mentioned the hate coming from certain fans and how he handles that, and why he thinks Ghostbusters is great franchise for a reboot.
It was originally rumored that along with McCarthy, other actresses attached to the film were Jillian Bell (Workaholics), Cecily Strong (SNL) and Emma Stone. Though Stone would have been amazing, the cast they have in place is excellent. I'm a huge fan of their work and the Ghostbusters reboot is off to a promising start.
