UPDATE: It appears that the Pre-Load button on Steam has changed to Play, and upon clicking that, Steam will unpack the downloaded files, making it ready to be played.
After having to sit through 24 hours of torture as Xbox One owners were gleefully blasting their way through New York City, PlayStation 4 and PC gamers can now join in on the action of Tom Clancy's The Division.
Well, sort of. It appears that some Steam users are unable to access the beta. Ubisoft confirmed the issues on The Division forums, confirming they've reached out to Steam to resolve the issue.
"We've noticed on the forums that some Steam players are unable to access the beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division. We are actively reaching out to Steam to resolve the issue and will keep you updated as we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding."
We've had no problem accessing the game on Xbox One or PS4, but we can confirm the issues with Steam. When attempting to pre-load it says it is locked and will not be available until it releases.
Once on the streets of New York City, the beta takes you through some of the "early story-driven missions that establish your foothold in New York," while introducing you to yoru Base of Operation and the PvP-enabled Dark Zone. More improtantly than giving you a chance to go hands-on with the highly anticipated-game, it allows Ubisoft to ensure the game is balanced and that servers are tested for a smooth launch.
